Bear, Bear Bearing by Chalicea

Puzzle explanation

Extra letters from wordplay spelt “the corner; what is concealed in thirty-six fourteen; poet”, referring to the opening lines of The Soldier by Rupert Brooke:

If I should die, think only this of me:
That there’s some corner of a foreign field
That is for ever England. There shall be
In that rich earth, a richer dust concealed;

The top row of the grid contained A FOREIGN FIELD, the bottom-left corner contained FOR/EVE/REN/GLAND, and between the grid entries 36 (RICH) and 14 (EARTH) the diagonal contained A RICHER DUST. The puzzle marked the centenary of Brooke’s death in April 1915. The title hinted at Rupert (Bear) Brook (bear) + E (bearing).
