The letters dropped from entries in the columns formed LAKE TITICACA from left to right. The initial grid fill is shown here, with the letters-latent entries shaded. Letters that were changed to make those entries into real words spelt out THE INCA TRAIL, leading upwards to MACHU PICCHU (replacing 2ac) at the top of the grid. Both locations are in the ANDES, which is hidden in the puzzle’s title.
